    Creative Capital

‘…We need to grow and nurture such talent – not just amongst those who already have access to support but amongst our most deprived communities who form the ‘second city’ of London. Creative Captial is the first publication, which focuses specifically on how that talent can be developed through support for small and medium companies, by enhancing the business acumen and skills of individuals and bridging across from areas of disadvantage into the mainstream creative industries sector. It is designed for everyone – individuals, companies and organisations who share a desire to make London a cultural capital and those who simply aspire to become involved themselves in the creative industries sector. Several hundred people across the capital have been involved in its preparation. I hope that the depth of information and understanding which it contains will inspire change and help us all to move forward to achieve a vision of growth and sustainability for the creative industries and for London.’

    - Rt Hon Chris Smith, Secretary for Culture Media and Sport, 1999

    21st Century Regions

‘This report encapsulates new and exciting thinking on regional issues and also indicates how vital it will be that we co-ordinate our approach across a broad range of fronts. The report takes forward this emerging regional agenda in a radical yet imaginative way. It is this kind of analysis and forward thinking which will be needed to underpin the work of Regional Development Agencies. I commend this important contribution to the regional debate.’

    - Richard Caborn, MP Minister for the regions, 1999

Sector Skills, Clusters and Enterprise Hubs across the English Regions (April 2000 – July 2001)

The study was commissioned by TEC National Council in the spring of 2000, supported by a steering group which included: the DfEE, DTI, English Partnerships, the TUC and National Chambers of Commerce. Regional Development Agencies, responsible for the strategic economic activity of the nine regions of the UK have also participated fully in this work. This combined intelligence provided unique insight to labour market developments and skills needs which can be utilised to inform training design and service provision on the local, regional, national and sectoral level. The central aim of this project was to begin to develop an effective network partnership focusing on centres of excellence and enterprise hubs across the UK. The project has also identified the support required to develop key sector strategies and a system of information and dissemination of skills trends.
